7 Op Shops In Sydney You Need To Visit For Your Next Thrifting Adventure

Thrifting is truly one of life’s most delightful experiences. On some days, it feels as though the thrifting gods are smiling upon you, and you leave with an unexpectedly marvelous haul. Often, when I glance at the diverse array of treasures I've found, it's clear that such a remarkable selection couldn't be replicated in a conventional shopping mall.

The thrill of thrifting lies in uncovering unique items without any idea of what you might discover. This excitement of potentially finding a hidden gem is unparalleled. Beyond the thrill, there's also the satisfaction of knowing that you're shopping sustainably and saving money. By resisting fast fashion, you're contributing to giving items a second life.

Thrifting is a passion of mine, and here at PEDESTRIAN.TV, we believe in sharing the joy. Thus, I present to you a curated list of seven of Sydney’s finest op shops. This compilation has been years in the making (you’re welcome). Happy thrifting, and may you find something extraordinary to fulfill your thrifting aspirations.

The Best Op Shops In Sydney

Savers, Surry Hills

Savers Surry Hills. (Image: Savers)

One of the premier op shop chains has finally arrived in New South Wales. Make your way swiftly to Savers in Surry Hills. The store is brimming with clothing options—think jeans, skirts, shoes, swimwear, activewear, and accessories. Essentially, anything you might desire—they likely have it. Plus, the prices are very reasonable compared to other op shops nowadays.

Beyond Surry Hills, you can also check out the Savers in Hoxton Park, and there's talk of a new Savers opening soon in Camperdown.

Vinnies, Blacktown Mega Centre

Keep your eyes out for the shoes here. (Image: Google Maps)

This Vinnies offers an excellent selection of dresses and shoes, in particular. While it's mid-range in terms of op shop prices, you can still find boots for $12 and a jacket for $20. They also have a fantastic variety of books and other bric-a-brac if you're in search of homewares.

Address: Cnr Blacktown Rd &, St Martins Cres, Blacktown. See more here.

Never skip on the $5 bucket. (Image: Sydney.com)

The Wayside Chapel has been supporting those experiencing homelessness in Sydney for over 50 years. Your donations of money or clothing go directly towards providing meals, clothing, and a range of other services to the homeless community in Sydney.

The store offers various pricing options, from a $5 bucket filled with assorted goodies to designer dresses priced around $100. It's one of those places where you never know what treasure you might find, making every visit worthwhile.

Salvos, Maroubra

A cluster of op shops is the greatest. (Image: Google Maps)

When I embark on an op-shopping adventure, I'm all set to explore. With this mindset, I often seek out a ‘cluster’—a group of op shops located close to each other, allowing you to hop between them and maximize your thrifting time.

Maroubra boasts the trifecta of Savers, Vinnies, and Anglicare, all within walking distance. The Salvos offers a section filled with vintage and quirky clothing, along with a good selection of shoes displayed on a small platform.

The Anglicare store is slightly smaller but very affordably priced, while the Vinnies a bit further down the road features a fantastic array of homewares and knick-knacks.

Address: Shop 1/193 Maroubra Rd, Maroubra NSW. See more here.

Vinnies, Waverley

If you’re on the hunt for some second hand designer, this is your spot. (Image: Google Maps)

This Vinnies is a bit more on the pricey side for an op shop, yet it frequently stocks designer brands at bargain prices. I've encountered everything from Zimmerman dresses to Armani shoes here. If you're in the mood for a splurge, this is the place to visit.

Address: 255/259 Bronte Rd, Waverley NSW. See more here.

Lifeline, Pennant Hills

We love an op shop that does it all. (Image: Lifeline)

This Lifeline store offers an impressive range. You'll find everything from a giant decorative fork (approximately one meter in size), paintings, furniture, flippers, snorkel gear, and even craft supplies. It's also part of a mini-cluster with another excellent Vinnies just up the road. The Lifeline has a fantastic selection of jewelry scattered throughout the store, ensuring that whenever you visit, you'll likely leave with something delightful.

Uturn Outlet, Punchbowl

Rack city etc. (Image: Second Hand Search)

If you’re the kind of thrift enthusiast who prefers visiting a single store, the Uturn outlet is your ideal destination. The store features racks upon racks of streetwear, along with a solid selection of sneakers. At the back, they offer ‘pay by kilo’ bins for those ready to dig in and discover a gem. You can easily spend a considerable amount of time perusing the racks, so be sure to allocate enough time for a thorough exploration.
